What is Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM)?

Chinese medicine was developed over 3000 years ago. It views the human body as
a reflection of the natural world, functioning as a microcosm that mirrors nature’s
rhythms and patterns.

Chinese medicine is a holistic medicine that looks at all aspects of the body, from its
physical functioning to mental and emotional wellbeing, to how eating, sleeping and
working habits & the physical environment influence the body.

Each individual will develop disease patterns in unique ways

  • depending on their own personal weak links & genetics

  • due to lifestyle choices

  • stress levels and emotions

  • weather and environment

  • dietary choices

  • work practices

What does a TCM practitioner do?

A Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner uses a holistic approach to
understand your health. Through detailed questions, pulse reading, and tongue
observation, they create a personalised diagnosis tailored to your unique needs.

Based on this, they may use treatments such as acupuncture, cupping, gua sha,
or moxibustion, along with Chinese herbal medicine and dietary guidance, to
address your concerns and restore balance to your body.

What can Traditional Chinese Medicine help with?

People visit a TCM practitioner for many different reasons, including:
- Musculoskeletal pain relief and injury recovery
- Chronic pain from arthritis, neuropathy
- Headaches
- Stress, tension, and emotional wellbeing
- Women’s health concerns such as period pain, PMS, heavy or irregular
cycles, perimenopause symptoms
- Preconception care and fertility support
- Digestive issues such as bloating, discomfort, or irregularity
- Sleep problems, including trouble falling or staying asleep
- Immune system support and resilience
- Fatigue and improving energy levels

Ashley Boland

Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner

Ashley’s path to Traditional Chinese Medicine began in her work as a Registered Nurse, where she spent eight years working with NSW Health, caring for patients in both hospital and community settings. With over a decade in healthcare, she saw firsthand the importance of treating not just the symptoms, but the whole person.

After experiencing the transformative effects of TCM in her own life, Ashley was inspired to complete a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SITCM). As an AHPRA registered acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner, she now combines her
medical background with a holistic approach, offering treatments that address the root of health concerns as well as the immediate discomfort.

Ashley has also completed further study in Dr Tan Balance Method acupuncture and the Fertile Life Method training by Dr Kristen Wolfe. Ashley loves supporting people through all stages of life and has a special interest in pain relief and women’s health.
