WHAT IS PODIATRY?
A Podiatrist is a medical specialist who diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the foot, ankle and structures of the leg. A Podiatrist is highly skilled in assessment of the shape and motion of the limb allowing for an effective diagnosis of the cause of injuries and/or the development of deformities.
A Podiatrist is also able to identify skin conditions, nail conditions and other chronic health conditions and provide the right treatment pathway.
WHEN SHOULD I SEE A PODIATRIST?
Any of the following are common problems treated by a Podiatrist
Sprains and stress fractures
Persistent heel pain
Toes pointing inward ot outward
Standing and walking on tip toe
High Risk Foot (related to diabetes)
numbness or pins and needles
poor circulation (pooling of fluid around the foot and ankle
infections and poor wound healing
Tinea and other fungal infections
